Pose number one: chin up.
Pose number two: hand on hip.
Pose number three: hold the breath.
The mirror does not clap.
Count them out like coins.
Four, five, six: collar straight.
She leans in the doorway, says:
You have stood there since eight.
Less posing, more revolt!
Weniger Pose, mehr Revolte!
Pose number nine: wet hair.
Pose number ten: sleeve rolled.
She lifts the matches off the amp,
strikes one, and says: too slow.
Trade the mirror for the floor.
Mind the ballroom boards, they creak.
Heels down, weight on the left.
Clap your hands behind the beat.
Less posing, more revolt!
Weniger Pose, mehr Revolte!
She says: nice jacket.
She says: nice jaw.
She says: I counted twelve poses
and not one step.
There is an empty frame on the wall —
stand in it. Hold still. Keep the jaw.
Or move.
move
Throw pose twelve out the window.
Peel the shirt off your back.
Sweat on the parquet: two feet, four feet,
eight feet, and the wall steps back.
Less posing, more revolt!
Weniger Pose, mehr Revolte!
Less posing, more revolt!
Weniger Pose, mehr Revolte!
Heels, heels, hips, hips.
Weniger Pose.
Heels, heels, hips, hips.
Mehr Revolte.
